Robb Says, “Go Watch Paraguay vs. New Zealand” | 06/24/2010
Even if unable to generate the same level of excitement as a game-winning stoppage time goal, the four matches slated for 23 June will have quite a bit to say in their own regard for a dramatic finish to group play.
If you love an underdog story, the most intriguing match of the day comes down to Paraguay vs. New Zealand. The NZ All Whites have shown incredible resilience after being labeled the worst team in the tournament by some media sources. Upping the intensity after their draw with Slovakia, a surprise second half goal against traditional powerhouse and 2006 champion Italy puts New Zealand in an unexpected state. Playing simultaneously as the Slovakian/Italian game, the All Whites’s will play for the victory and hope for some help from the Slovaks.
Paraguay on the other hand leads the group with six points, and though they aren’t completely assured of a spot in the knockout stage, are playing with considerable confidence to the point where some players have begun discussing match-ups in the round of eight.
I’d expect a spirited match ultimately leading to a Paraguay victory leaving New Zealand able to hold their heads high on the trip back to the Land of the Long White Cloud.
